Tournament name: Hlinka Gretzky Cup
Host cities: Brno (Czech Republic), Trenčín (Slovakia)
Date: August 11–16, 2025
The Hlinka Gretzky Cup follows in the tradition of the Junior World Cup and the Pacific Cup, which began in 1991 in Japan. Since 1997, it has been held in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and since 2004 it has borne the name of legendary hockey player and coach Ivan Hlinka. In 2018, the name of Canadian hockey legend Wayne Gretzky was added to the tournament title, and from that year on, hosting duties have alternated regularly between the Czech Republic + Slovakia and Canada.
The Hlinka Gretzky Cup, featuring players under the age of eighteen, is a prestigious showcase of hockey talent from Europe and overseas. Traditional participants include teams from the Czech Republic, Finland, Canada, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, and the USA. In the past, stars such as Sidney Crosby, Jonathan Toews, Evgeni Malkin, and Steven Stamkos have taken part in the tournament.
