Report
After losing to Slovakia, the American team stepped into the match with Tre Kronor at a high pace. Gavin Hayes opened the scoring with a fast rebound in the fourth minute. And the Americans soon celebrated again. After DeAngelo’s breakaway, the puck was deflected to Jonah Aegerter, who increased the lead to 2-0.
But the Swedes answered when Liam Öhgren used his speed and perfect shot between the pads. Just 38 seconds before the end of the first period, Cole Knuble finished perfect set up from Brennan Ali and American were again in a two-goal lead.
This lead was diminished in the second period. At 22:40, Fabian Wagner precisely aimed from the slot and Jonathan Lekkerimäki followed him with a nice backhand deke. The score was equalized and both teams then played more responsibly in the rest of the second.
Neither team wanted to make a mistake in the third. But after 12 minutes, the Americans left space for Mattias Hävelid, who sent the Swedes into the lead. Although the USA created some chances, Ellias Petterson’s goal at the end was decisive. Sweden therefore celebrates advancing to the semi-finals.
