Report

However, at first it definitely did not look like such a shooting parade for Slovakia as the Germans were the first to score. After only three minutes, it was Rik Gaidel who directed Lukas Ullmann´s pass. But the Slovaks were quick to come back when Dalibor Dvorský started his what would be a seven-point night. It took Slovakia quite a while to follow up but when it happened, it happened in a big way. After Filip Mešár´s snipe from the right face-off circle, a one-touch combination finished by Peter Repčík, long-distance projetile from the stick of Slovakia´s hottest prospect Juraj Slafkovský, and Alex Čiernik´s goal on the power-play, the Slovaks built up an impresive four-goal lead before the first intermission.

In the second period, the Slovakian goal train slowed down a little as it took the home team almost ten minutes to add their sixth of the night when Dalibor Dvorský added another one to his name. Another great and quick combination finished by Adam Sýkora followed only after two minutes by a nice deke by Ondrej Molnár and Juraj Slafkovský´s second snipe of the game set the score to 9-1.

The Slovaks did not have enough and added another three goals in the last period. Ondrej Molnár was the first to open the scoring sheet of the last twenty-minute and very shortly after, Dalibor Dvorský completed a hat-trick. The Germans were able to put one more behind Eliaš thanks to Matthias Pischoff. But Slovakia had the last word as Peter Repčík made the final score 12-2 in favor of the hosts.

Reactions

Ivan Feneš (head coach of Slovakia): "We are extremely happy that we showed and confirmed that we have fantastic young players in Slovakia. We are very much looking forward to the continuation of the tournament and we appreciate that we have advanced. However, we remain with our feet on the ground. I believe that the tournament will only begin for us."

Alexander Dück (head coach of Germany): "The boys tried very hard, but it is clear that today the opponent showed us our limits. Let's analyze today's match, prepare for tomorrow and try to motivate the boys well. We still have a lot of work to do.”
