After the Czech Republic beat the USA, goaltender Lukáš Dostál was awarded the game MVP for his team and had his name chanted by the strong crowd in Břeclav.
Dostal, who plays his hockey for Kometa Brno, is prospect for 2018 NHL Entry Draft. The 17-year-old was pleased with his team’s win.
"We’re happy with out performance," he began. "The guys helped me a lot out there, showed some great offensive skills and we got seven goals. We’d had some problems scoring in the previous games, but tonight we’ll enjoy the result, tomorrow as well, and on Friday get our mind focused on the Russia game."
"We scored early, and that was definitely something which turned the game in our favour. Compared to last year’s team we don’t have as many good individual players as they did, but on the other hand we don’t over rely on a couple of players," continued the Brno native. "We’ll have a video session of Russia playing in Bratislava, but we know it’ll be a really hard game and that we´ll have to be aggressive at both ends of the ice."
"I’d already heard fans chanting my name when we played a tournament there before, but it was great to experience that again today," he added.
