Brno/Trenčín, June 25, 2025 – One of the most prestigious youth hockey tournaments in the world is returning in grand style. Hlinka Gretzky Cup 2025, a tournament for players under 18, will take place this year from August 11 to 16 in two cities – Brno and Trenčín. Elite young players from Europe and North America will compete in two groups, with Group A visiting the Brno arena and Group B being hosted by Trenčín, Slovakia.
The tournament will traditionally feature eight hockey powerhouses: the Czech Republic, Canada, Finland, Sweden, the USA, Switzerland, Germany, and Slovakia. Fans can look forward to seeing future stars of the NHL and Europe´s top leagues.
A major change this year is the relocation of the Czech part of the tournament from Břeclav to Brno, which last hosted the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in 2004. The modern facilities and larger capacity of the Brno arena will offer more comfortable conditions not only for players, but also for spectators and journalists.
The tournament will be played in two groups (two “pools”) using a round-robin system. Each team will play three games over three days. This will be followed by placement games and semifinal games. The teams that finish 3rd and 4th in their group will compete in placement matches. The teams that finish 1st and 2nd will compete in cross-over semifinals – the winner of Group A will face the second team from Group B, and the winner of Group B will face the second team from Group A.
The Slovak and Czech teams will play their matches on August 15 and 16 on home turf. If these teams meet in the semifinals or finals, the match will be played on the home turf of the team with the better ranking after the preliminary round. The results of the semifinal matches will determine the composition of the bronze and gold medal matches.
Tickets for Group A matches will go on sale on Wednesday, June 25, at 12:00 p.m. on the website ceskyhokej.cz/vstupenky or on the tournament website hlinkagretzkycup.cz.
Fans can look forward to exciting matches, a great atmosphere, and the opportunity to see the future stars of world hockey right now with their own eyes.
