Before 1772 spectators in Trenčín, the Slovak team played a pre-tournament game for the Hlinka Gretzky Cup against the USA. Although Theo Kiss opened the scoring in the 12th minute for the home side, after that the Americans scored four times, eventually winning 4-1.
