The start of the traditional Hlinka Gretzky Cup is approaching. The tournament of the best young hockey players starts on Monday, August 2. Firstly, Piešťany will host the match between Germany and Sweden at 15:30 CET. In the evening, Slovaks want to surprise talents from the USA from 19:00 CET.
Because of Covid-19, Canada did not come to Europe and was replaced by the Germans. They are no longer second-line hockey players, and this is doubly true for young talents from this country. Germany will enter the tournament with an afternoon match against Sweden.
Northerners will be the favorite in the match, but both young teams don´t know each other very well. They have only competed five times in the last twelve years, always with a high Swedish win.

Slovak players against talents from overseas
For fans in Piešťany, the main action of the day will come in the evening, when the Slovaks are going to fight against the USA.
Before the tournament, however, the Slovak youngsters are not in an ideal mood, because in Saturday´s general they lost to Russia 3:9. High loss like that can left its mark on the players.
On the other hand, Slovakia has two 17-year-old guys, who have already competed in both the IIHF Junior World Championships and the senior IIHF World Championships this year. Striker Juraj Slafkovský and defender Šimon Němec are undoubtedly among the greatest talents of the tournament.
Will the Americans be able to repeat the result from 2019? That year in the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, they defeated Slovakia 4:3 in the overtime.
